Teaching with Phasorium
How to link a lesson, put one of its instruments on a course page, and credit it.
Embed an instrument
One line for your course page
- In a lesson, set the instrument and press its Share button.
- Copy this line into the page.
<iframe src="https://phasorium.com/embed/dsp/sampling-and-aliasing/where-a-tone-lands/?fold.f=7" title="Where a tone lands · Phasorium" width="100%" height="520" style="border:0" loading="lazy"></iframe>
It goes wherever your course platform takes HTML.
Every lesson has a permanent address, and any instrument in it can sit on a course page at the setting you choose. This page says how, and how to credit what you use.
Link to a lesson
A lesson’s address does not change, so a link in this year’s reading list still works next year. Each instrument has a Share button: it copies the lesson’s address with the instrument’s setting, so a student opens the picture exactly as you left it. This link opens Sampling and aliasing with “Where a tone lands” set to 7 kHz:
phasorium.com/learn/dsp/sampling-and-aliasing/?fold.f=7
Put an instrument on a course page
The line above shows one instrument in a frame: the picture, its caption and readouts, the Phasorium mark and a link to the lesson. Nothing else of the site comes with it. Students operate it on your page, and “Open the lesson” takes them to the full lesson at the same setting.
The frame fits the width it is given, from a phone to a wide page, and takes the look of the student’s device. To fix the look, end the address in the line with look=light or look=dark, after a?, or after a & when the address already has a setting. An instrument that moves plays once when it comes into view and can be paused; with reduced motion turned on, it shows a still frame.
Students and accounts
Lessons open without charge: the first few straight away, and an account or an email address keeps the rest open. An instrument on your page never asks for an account and sets no cookies.
Credit
An instrument on your page credits itself: the mark and the link to its lesson stay in its frame. In slides, handouts and reading lists, give the lesson’s title and address:
Phasorium, “Sampling and aliasing”, https://phasorium.com/learn/dsp/sampling-and-aliasing/
What you may reuse
You may link to any lesson or instrument, and embed an instrument on your own page with the line above. Short passages may be quoted with credit. Copying a lesson, translating it or reusing its pictures needs written permission; the terms of use say more.
